President graces BHU convocation
Women play a special role in the overall development of the country. Universities should work towards women education and development of their skill and knowledge. Equal opportunity in education should be available to all. Such views were expressed by President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil while delivering the convocation speech at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Highlighting the importance of education, she said it was education that ensured all-round development of a nation and brought prosperity. The educational institutions work like heart to energise all components of the society by producing skilled human resources, she said and added that it was the responsibility of the educational institutions to produce efficient students for the development of the nation and society. The level of university education is the yardstick to measure the progress and prosperity of a nation, she pointed out.
Expressing her concern, she said the country was passing through a challenging phase. “While on one hand there are problems like poverty, starvation and ailments despite prosperity, on the other hand challenges like organised crime and terrorist activities are also present,” she said adding in such a situation, the institutions of higher education would have to play a special role.
Patil also denounced the increasing trend of consumerism and greed that damaged the social fabric. “It is true that adequate money is needed to lead a good life, but one should earn money only through just means and also contribute towards social welfare,” she said. The increasing greed was escalating corruption and criminal tendency among the youth and it was a matter of serious concern, said the President. She further stated that the present era was the era of science and information technology. Developments and new inventions in the field might help in human welfare. “The universities of the country should give lay emphasis in research so that India could take a lead in science and technology,” she hoped.
Calling upon the youth to come forward to take part in the process of nation building, she said the future of India was in the hands of the youth. “I think that the educated youth have to play an important role in creating an atmosphere of equality and dispelling darkness of ignorance,” said the President adding that the youth would have to work in the interests of the nation, giving up their narrow self-interests.
She also highlighted the role of BHU and its founder Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya in propagating value-based education. She congratulated the students who received their degrees at the convocation and exhorted them to follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.

LETS CELEBRATE HOLI !!!

HI FRIENDS… This is high time in BHU… When HOLI comes, it brings rainbow color diversity to its beautiful campus. For a week .. the “EVER GREEN” tag of BHU changes to a “VIBGYOR”. In the same time BHU lanes demands more foot steps.. but alas all its family members go for a long drive to all possible remotest corner of INDIA. All we left with vacant roads, empty campus bus, closed tea stalls in VT , occasional copules in MADHUVAN, and a hungry scene in Central Library. Still existing manpower try their best to overshow the pompous BHU strength and vigour. Beautiful lawns see their first wound on their surface,as all dig soil, make a perfectly tuned …well balanced Ph ” SOIL SOLUTION”…( remember chemistry lab), douse it over as if BHU has provided free alcohol….then…then…then.. We all come to street starting from VT to LANKA GATE…. demand whole breadth of road as our “BIRTH RIGHT”…..Literaly (MINI road Blocked). All unknown passer by become our BHAIYA or BHAUJI …really marvellous experience. One thing more important then this celebration…is we all remain virtually hungry..as all mess & hotels in lanka are closed. then MAGGI serves as our appetizer..
so friends come join together..we all will celebrate holi with a new vibrant spirit…
jai ho..har har mahadevvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

My experience at Spandan 09
I was fortunate to be a part of Spandan, the annual youth fest of BHU. Unfortunately I didnt backed any prizes but the experience was far any explaination.
At Spandan, one thing I observed was that the faculty who organised a particular event grabbed prizes in the very same event. I wonder how ?? For example, if Institute A organised Essay Writing, participants from Insitiute A won Esaay Writing. It was the same with other events. I think the coordinators must note this.

The burger is back..
As everyone knows our ex VC Prof Punjab Singh banned junk/fast food in VT premises. Consequently the student footfall dropped at the temple. I went to VT after a long time (that too for Xerox) and to my astonishment I saw one of the shops (Om Cafe) serving burgers, however the potato chips, chowmein and cold drinks were no where in picture. But as per our ex VC’s definition, fast food also included burgers. Probably this was some relaxation given by the present VC, Prof. D.P.Singh, to the students after observing them having really a tough time. I hope that we see the chinese cusines, along with chips and cold drink soon back at VT.
One thing that made me scratch my head was that only a single shop served fast food. No other shop had any hint of it. I wonder if BHU is granting license to sell these items ?

BHU’s new hot spot “Nescafe’s Coffee Corner”
Here comes Banaras Hindu University’s new hotspot “Nescafe’s Coffee Corner”.
Located adjacent to Madhuban, the lover’s paradise, this place has turned popular in no time. The all-time-favorite VT, is gradually loosing its craze among students, may be because of lack of privacy due to tourists. Coffee Corner is proving to be a great venue to celebrate birthdays and throwing treats. The coffee starts at Rs 5 (Nescafe Classic) which is cheaper than VT, of course you need to neglect the quantity. And besides that you get a Cappuchino for just Rs 10 and many more to choose from.
And in case your mess is upseting you with its awful food, you can always have the home made Maggi overhere. However the price may make you raise your eyebrows. Its costs Rs 15 and is even less in quantity than the one you get for Rs 10 in the market.
Presently the place is giving a tough competition to VT and Maitri Jalpan Grah. But lets see how long ?
As a saying goes “Try new things but dont forget old, these are silver those are gold”.

Selection for “Earn and Learn” begins at BHU
An interview for the selection of students in the Earn and Learn program was held at the BHU campus. Meritorious but financially weak students were elligible for this program and after selection they are given various university tasks part-time. (Unfortunately I didnt fulfill the elligibility mainly because of the latter criteria).
Students are paid at the rate of Rs 40 per hour and they are required to work for around two hours per day for 15 days in the month. this makes then earn around Rs 1200 per month.
